So it’s obvious from a look at one of the faces of the matured and adult women of the Mursi or Surma tribe is that what seperates them from other Africans is their lip plates. A lip plate is the round, oval or circled object that is placed in between the lower lip of any of the Mursi girls who are nearing the age of Adolescence usually between the ages of 15 – 16.
Culture and tradition has always and will always be a thing of great confusion. Africa is a very beautiful and blessed continent but it’s diverse culture, traditions, ethnic groups, beliefs and languages has greatly affected it’s development negatively. How has putting a lip plate in between a little girls lips got anything to do with identifying that she has reached the age or stage of adolescence.
And if that helps how does it benefit the little or young girl positively and also how does it impact the society. Instead what it does is destroy her beautiful, well-created, God-made face. Put her in severe and unbearable pains for a very long period of time. For this lip plates to be successfully installed into a girls lower lips she will lose about four to five of her of lower tooth.
And obviously once this lip plates have been installed her looks and the nature of her mouth has been changed for life. Maybe a serious plastic surgery might be able to restore her lips back to normal. But I doubt if modern medicine has reached that stage of technological advancement.
